"There are more and more cars coming to our service shop and their gearboxes don't have a dipstick anymore" A mechanic from a private car service shop told Cosda what he has observed in recent years. "And we are no longer able to refill the gearbox oil with a funnel attached to an extension pipe. So what you offered me is a perfect solution." He talked excitedly with a big smile. Cosda is also happy that we have solved his problem with an inexpensive approach.
This tank has a capacity of 3 liter, which may seem insufficient for refilling gearboxes or transmissions, but usually we can only refill the fluid with the exact amount that we have drained. Even though the transmissions have 5 liter capacity, sometimes draining out 3 liter of used fluid is still slightly difficult. In addition, if encountering insufficient gearbox oil in the tank, simply release the pressure and unscrew the side cap on the tank to refill more gearbox oil and continue refilling is possible.
This tool set include two adapters that can used universally. One is with a soft tube that can go into the fill plug hole on the gearbox. It is suggested that the user should use one hand to hold the soft tube the whole time while refilling the fluid in case that the soft tube flies out and causing the fluid spraying everywhere. The other adapter is a hook-type tube that can be hooked on the refill hole easily. Cosda also offers adapters tailer-made for other vehicles. Frequently asked questions:
1. What is the maximum pressure for the tank?
The gauge on the tank has a maximum reading of 4 bars, or 58 psi. But since this tool can only be pressurized manually. It is very difficult to increase the pressure to over 1.5 bar, or 21.7 psi, and we do not recommend you to pressurize the tank more than 1 bar or 14.5 psi in case that the tank imploded or created tiny cracks that can cause damage for the future use.
2. Are there scales on the tank so I can know how much liquid I have refilled?
Yes, on the flat side of the tank a scale with volume in liter and US quart can be seen. The tank is translucent and the regular pink gearbox oil is still visible even under dim surroundings.
3. Why did you design a side cap, I mean, why don't we just refill the new fluid from the top cap?
Pouring new fluid into the tank from the top cap is possible, but because the top cap has other parts attached to it, making screwing and unscrewing the top cap a tedious task, and the constant fastening and unfastening can cause wearing on the cap or the threads on the tank. Alternatively, we have designed the tank with a side cap, providing an easy access to the inner part of the tank. When pouring new fluid, make sure that you use a funnel and pour gradually so the air inside the tank can escape while pouring.
4. Why there are steel wires inside the hose?
The internal wire inside the refill hose can help the hose to withstand more pressure, and protect the hose if the user accidentally bend the hose at an extreme or sharp angle, which may cause the hose to create crates or leaks. The sharp turn on the hose can be easily be seen on the hose outlet from the tank or the hose exit to the transmission. Sometimes the hose is bent aggressive during transportation, so the inner wire can be very helpful.
