Magnetic Oil Drain Pliers (Length: 294 mm)
• Strong magnet sticks to plugs firmly
• Universal application
• Also useful when picking up screws or nuts if fallen in engine compartment
Changing engine oil is one of the most basic tasks for a mechanic because the interval for changing engine oil is the shortest, compared to coolant, brake fluid, and gearbox oil etc. The first step to change the engine oil is to drain the existing oil from the engine. Usually we would jack up the car, locate the drain plug. Loosen the plug, and after several turns, when you start to feel the engine oil is coming out, or the drain plug threads are going to an end, or a mixture of both, you slow down turning the drain plug, and then you move your hand with the drain plug between your fingers as fast as possible so you don’t get burnt by the hot engine oil or get the oil spraying all over yourself or the floor. But this hassle may go to an end with this useful tool.
This magnetic drain plug tool attaches to the drain plug after you have done the initial loosening on the drain plug, and the long wire is able to transfer your turning forces to loosen the drain plug. You will on longer have to remove your hand in a flashlight. The engine oil will come out without burning your hand.
The magnet is a special and high quality one. The most impressive feature is that the magnet still keeps its attraction to ferromagnetic metals under the heat. The magnet is made of sintered Nd-Fe-B and has a heat resistance to 120°C or 248°F. The magnet is screwed to the seat at the top of the tool so the adhesive agent doesn’t fail even if the tool is constantly in contact with heat. The magnet seat has a one-side support, which allows itself to be attached to the drain plug tightly regardless of the size of the drain plug. You may use it to remove other drain plugs such as transmission/gearbox, clutch, and differential drain plugs, and they are sometimes much bigger than oil drain plugs.
The magnet is very strong, but I’m not able to describe how strong it is with simple text descriptions, but generally the tool is able to grab other things even 10 times of its weight.
Engine oil is a synthetic product and there are several types of chemical additives mixed in it. The engine oil is constantly working in a high temperature environment, and that may cause the oil to become carcinogenic if in contact with the human body for an extended period of time. If your job involves oil change on a daily basis, this tool is definitely worth investing in.
